SHINE Award Programme

SHINE Award is an achievement record that formally recognizes and rewards all students who wish to reach their full potential by taking part in fun and diverse extra-curricular activities both on and off campus. Students get to explore exciting social activities, meet and make new friends, and gain skills that will give them an extra sparkle over the rest.

The event that i joined for learning package 1 -personal development is Shine Discovery Session. Shine Discovery Session help me to know ourselves more details through whole brain personality assessment. Due to we have different personality and attitudes and the trainers hep us to understand ourselves more by giving us to play some mini games such as young adult brain development inventory. Thus, the result is I am a type of "red" person due to i got my red triage score highest. I am the type of a person that social able, kindness and easy-going.Beside that, shine discovery session help me to know the people we don't know through buddy system. They stick a paper on the file that stated our buddy name, we have to find our buddy by ourselves for example mine one is "Datik", so i have to find "Datuk". By that, we have to write down each of the personal information by commonality with each other. Furthermore, we played a game with them which is spaghetti and marshmallow which our group have to build a structure by using spaghetti and tape to stick it and made into a structure. In our group we are the first to complete it and the tallest. We are so happy because we are able to work as a team and cooperate with each other well. Beside that, we had to build logo and write our own reflection. We had to write based on our goals and how we going to achieve it. Next, the trainer brief us about the jungle tracking on the next day as well as reminded us to bring the important stuff. The second day of SDS , we reached the uni by 7:00 am and because the bus will leave at 7:35 am. We reach there about 9:00 am to the jungle tracking place and we had our breakfast there. Next, there were 2 instructor that come to brief us about the things we should not do doing the jungle tracking and there will led us into the jungle. We must bring three empty bags to put the ingredients and materials to the jungle for a cooking battle. After that, we divided in to a group just like yesterday, to cooked our own lunch. We learn about teamwork while cooking as well as ticking and solving problem for example how to cooked the rice. We also learn on how to take care of each others because we wait for the team members if they stop to tie their shoelaces or they need to rest. During the cooking, we learn to respect each other people opinion as different people have their own opinion. Lifelong learning is one of the skill that we learnt because this is the first time we learnt survival skill which we cooked in the jungle. After cooking, we went to the river to play and relax. We enjoyed it very much and we enjoy the mother nature as well as spend time with each other. We ate able to taste Malay traditional food. The third day of "SDS", we had a group sharing session on the jungle tracking adventure which we have to stated out what we do and learn, and learn what is our mistake. Next, we had personal value and sharing. We had to list down our top is personal value and leadership value. After that, we had our mission statement which I seek for knowledge. I wanted to learn every knowledge as much as I can. If I have something don't understand, I will ask till i understand completely. I wanted to use the knowledge that I learnt to put in my future vocation. I wanted to be a successful leader and make a quality job. I love my family and I hope they are always healthy and happy. Courage is very important to do something you never done before. Take the challenges and use the courage to do whatever you want as long as it is good. Because you only live once. Do things with passion and love. I love adventure and travel and I want to travel all around the world one day to experience their food, culture ,religious and more. I love to make friends and socialize. I want to meet the people from all around the world to enrich my life. I hope there's no more war in the world. Just be myself and I love who I am. After that, we had a break. after we come back we had to do a swot analysis. Next, we had to plan our own goals setting and action planning. We had to stated out own goal setting and plan to do it. For the final reflection, i write this and we are done for this "SDS". This is an interesting session for me because we are able to explore, make new friends, got a chance to go for jungle tracking, upgrade our knowledge and able to change our perspective as well as broaden mindset.First and foremost, I have developed Interpersonal Skills in this SHINE DISCOVERY SESSION. The reason is because through Interpersonal Skills I understand team dynamics and work with other in a team. For instance, I learnt teamwork which cooperate with each teammate to cook inside the jungle. Everyone in the group has different duty and leader divide the job for us to complete our cooking task in jungle. With this Interpersonal skills, I also understand and assume leadership. As a leader, I understand that have to respect everyone in the group and so that can be an accountability leader. Furthermore, I have developed Thinking and Problem Solving skills in this SHINE DISCOVERY SESSION. The reason why I choose Thinking and Problem Solving Skills is for the reason that I have to think critically and creatively to accomplish the mission which is SWOT analysis. For instance, I use thinking and problem solving skills to classify my strength, weakness, opportunity and weakness. I also can define and analyse problems to arrive at effective solutions through these skills by thinking various methods to complete the task which is Spaghetti and Marshmallow which involve collaboration in a group to build a building. Lastly, I have developed Communication Skills in SHINE DISCOVERY SESSION. The intention why I choose Communication Skills is because I can communicate appropriately in various settings and modes with my teammate in finishing the mission. Everyone has different thoughts and ideas so to work in a group must have good communication skills to avoid argument and disagreement. For an instance, my teammate and I meet difficult to indicate the methods to build the building while doing the Spaghetti and Marshmallow nevertheless with this appropriate communication skills, my teammate and I can deliberate in a very harmony situation and act as a team and cooperate with each and every one used to accomplish the mission together.

The second event event that i joined for Learning Packages 2- People and Leadership is 4th iLead Conference 2016.On the day of "ILEAD" we had to register ourselves before entering the conference. We got free notebook, pen and bread. I think is really good because i got to write down the important points in the conference. The first speaker that going to do his presentation and shared his experiences was Dato' Sri Idris Jala. He is the Managing Director of the BFR Institute and CEO of PEMANDU, a unit in the Prime Minister's Department, Malaysia. What he was trying to share is 6 secret of Transformational Leader. The first secret is if you're not number 1, find number 1 and set it as your goal. The second one is anchoring on true north( sharp focus and ruthless prioritization of limited resources on what really matter. After that, Develop 3 programmer and exercise "DMS' implementation such as who does what, when, how, and resources involved and do it relentlessly, monitor it constantly and solve problem recursively. The forth one is practice situational leadership such as change leadership style based on team development like directive style and empowering style. Moreover, winning coalition such as shell like wining coalition with 'LPG" dealers and agents. Divine intervention like humans beings have limited control or influence over what happens and life is a continuous reduction of opinions. Therefore, successful have to measure, target, be specific of your measure, do practice to make sure successful, remind yourself to become or transform yourself doing things you never understand, achieve impossible for example like if anyone cannot do it, transform yourself internally and be prepared to fail cause that the way u can learn. Lastly, encourage them to follow you for example like continuously go to the bottom line or the edge. Next, follow by forum. The forum is participated by innovation and creativity as well as entrepreneurship in the 21st century which were Joanne Ho,Co-founder of Happy Bunch SDN BHD as well as Alexis Ang-founder and CEO of Fruni Print and Khoo Cai LIn-National swimmer and record holder. They came here to educate us and share their experiences about how they become a successful leaders with ambition and entrepreneurial skill to establish their own business in a successful way. They also teached us how to believe in ourselves by developing our own potential and understand our SWOT used to achieve our goals. They also share with us their aspiration to become a successful leader that want to make difference. After that, follow by inspiring talk by Mr. Anas Zubedy who is the Managing Director and Founder of Zubedy(M) SDN BHD. He shared with us about V.M.G.O which is VISION,MISSION,GOALS AND OBJECTIVES from envisioning to taking action. He shared that vision can help us to see the future and it must be inspirational, asking for the best.He also told us that goals can translate missions into concrete plans and the year plan and they must be achievable but with a stretch. For the objectives he shared that objectives are operational dimension of goals and it helps us to make corrective actions and review our goals and make tactical changes. He also mentioned about tools for structure which the plan to do with our goals and it separated into four categories which were PEISM(three levels),MONTHLY KEY TASK(MKT),WEEKLY MONITORING PLAN(WMP) and DAILY THINGS TO DO LIST(DTTDL). P for PEISM is physiological which is health and fitness while E for PEISM is emotion which is relationship with love ones and god, I for PEISM is intellect which is knowledge, experience while S for PEISM is Social which is work, friends while the last one M is Material which is money, wealth. He showed us his goals in his life and what he wanted to achieve within 3 years and these were the plan he used to plan. He teaches us to plan our goals for future and action plan to achieve it. These were the speakers of the day. Overall, I gain a lot of unforgettable and meaningful as well as significant experience. Thank you Taylor's University for giving me such an opportunity to participate in this kind of magnificent conference. I learnt to set my goals for future as well as inspire myself to become a accountability and successful leader and enrich my mindset first to become a successful leader. This really broaden my horizon and I hope I get to have another chance to participate in this kind of grand event next time.
